New NTN ULTAGE Deep Groove Ball Bearings for Ultra-high Temperature Environments

NTN Bearing Corporation is pleased to announce the development of  ULTAGE Deep Groove Ball Bearings for Ultra-high Temperature Environments.  The new bearing uses a solid lubricant designed with a special composition.

Fluorine grease is currently employed as the lubricant in rolling bearings used in high temperatures of 250°C (482° F) or less, however sliding bearings are mainly used in place of roller bearings at ultra-high temperatures of 250 to 400°C (752°F), as these temperatures exceed the operating temperature of fluorine grease. There has also been an increased demand for the use of high-speed, low-torque rolling bearings used as bearings for stretching guide rollers of film stretching machines that operate within high-temperature furnaces, as a means of improving productivity and reducing power consumption.

The newly developed bearing uses a solid lubricant designed with a special composition in place of fluorine grease. The bearing also features improvements made to the internal design to increase the amount of lubricant and optimize the shape of the bearings, resulting in approximately double the operating life, which is one of the longest in the industry. A positioning ring has been installed between the shield and solid lubricant to help feed lubricant in the direction of rotation to ensure the ideal contact conditions between the rolling element (balls) and lubricant, resulting in smoother rotation. In addition to providing a reliable supply of lubricant to the raceway surface of the bearing, the design reduces rotational torque to approximately 1/4. The inclusion of a metallic cover over the solid lubricant helps prevent the inner and outer rings from separating even if the solid lubricant becomes extremely worn.

NTN will be marketing the newly developed bearing as a product capable of being used in ultra-high temperature applications, and releasing it on markets worldwide.
